 Meet Our People – The Enduring Spirit of the Chickasaw Nation

Beth Perkins, a proud Chickasaw and professional photographer resides in Rockaway Beach, New York, an area hit especially hard by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. She describes the challenges of rebuilding after the storm destroyed her home and community, but has newfound strength in her Chickasaw heritage. She says she has a stronger appreciation of her ancestors and the hardships they endured when they were forced from their homelands and had to rebuild in Indian Territory—current day Oklahoma.The Chickasaw resilience inspires her.
