Harris Penner

Meet Our People – The Enduring Spirit of the Chickasaw Nation

Harris Penner, Owner of Penner Ranch, is the great-great grandson of Cyrus Harris, the first governor of the Chickasaw Nation, who came to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. He owns and operates a black angus cattle operation on the same land where his ancestors settled in Indian Territory near present day Mill Creek, Oklahoma. Penner Ranch is the oldest ranch in Oklahoma and was designated as a Centennial Ranch in 2007. He runs the ranch with his family, specifically his three daughters, who are "the backbone of the operation." He says the land means everything to him and is part of his Chickasaw heritage.
