Franklin Keel

Meet Our People – The Enduring Spirit of the Chickasaw Nation

For over 40 years, Chickasaw citizen Franklin Keel served his country at home and abroad. During his distinguished career, he represented the interests of American Indian people at the highest levels of government. "I have a strong tradition of public service in my family," says the retired civil servant and foreign service officer. "I started out in the Bureau of Indian Affairs and I tried to pave the way for these tribes to work with the state congressional delegations, as well as state government." Even after retirement, Keel continued his service as a volunteer JAG officer for the United States Air Force Academy. "America is not going to improve unless we do it together," he says. "But I think there's a place for all of us."
