Chickasaw elder Tewanna Edwards loves helping people. At the age of 68, she lost her husband and found herself needing to find work. She feels God led her down the path where she is today. She works as a community liaison with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to help nursing home patients live independent lives again. Edwards describes her motivation to assist her fellow citizens as a higher calling. "Every morning, I wake up and I look around and I say 'Well, God, you gave me another day here,'" she laughs. "It gives me a reason to get up every day." Best of all, she knows that her work has an impact, and not just in her community. "Helping make a positive difference in people's lives. That hand reaches out to more than Chickasaws."
