Forcing their way into Chickasaw territory, Hernando de Soto and his brutal band of conquistadors took over an abandoned village, demanding the Chickasaws carry food and baggage for his men. To rid ourselves of these unwelcome guests, we planned an attack; the surviving Spaniards fled into the night.
