The Chickasaws harbored the Natchez. The French coveted Natchez lands and were angered by the attack on Fort Rosalie.

We had a long-standing alliance and trade relationship with the British, with whom the French had growing animosity.

The strategic location of the Chickasaw Domain on the Mississippi River blocked the French from complete ownership of those lands.
