On February 22 Pierre D'Arteguiette departed Fort De Chartres for the Prudhomme Bluffs with 145 French troops and 326 Iroquois, Arkansas, Miami and Illinois Indian allies.
As he made his way closer to the Chickasaw villages, he sent out scouting parties to search for Bienville. At this time D'Arteguiette finally received the communication concerning his delay. Unable to feed more than 500 French and Indian allies, D'Arteguiette made the decision to attack, capture and occupy Ogoula Tchetoka and await Bienville's arrival.
