Chickasaw storyteller Lorie Carmichael says she was lucky to grow up with a loving grandmother who shared family stories with her grandchildren. These stories, she says, can also be educational and shed light on such fields as astronomy, agriculture, science and nature. Lorie believes that sharing stories with younger generations helps to preserve Chickasaw history and culture. Each new storyteller, she says, helps breathe life into centuries-old tales. This tradition helps cement the Chickasaw identity as an unconquered and unconquerable people.
