Beginning February 1, Chickasaw citizens will be able to display their tribal heritage and pride on their motor vehicles. New license plates specially designed to celebrate the Chickasaw Nation will become available at all Oklahoma Tax Commission tag offices – all you have to do is present your Chickasaw citizenship card at the time of purchase. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran take us next to the Bedré Fine Chocolate factory in Davis, Oklahoma. What makes Bedré chocolate unique is that the brand has its own proprietary chocolate, meaning that it’s made from a unique formula. After the formula is created, it’s then melted down, brought to the exact right temperature and then combined with either a filling or an added ingredient to form the final product. And if you go a bit overboard with the chocolate, don’t worry – the Chickasaw Nation’s Wellness Centers have a variety of programs and services to keep you in shape. The Moccasin Trails program, for example, provides assessments, health education, exercise demonstrations and more to encourage overall health. Participants are then rewarded for how much they exercise; 20 minutes of activity anytime, anywhere is equal to one mile. In the spirit of getting healthy in the new year, the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center is hosting a couple of special events to recognize February as American Heart Month. National Wear Red Day, meant to bring awareness to heart disease in women, is February 6, and the medical center will be hosting a Heart Health Fair on February 20.
