The latest episode of CNTV News begins at the Oklahoma State Capitol with a special dedication for an extremely accomplished Chickasaw woman. A portrait of Pearl Carter Scott by Oklahoma artist Christopher Nick was unveiled at the Oklahoma House of Representatives on February 19. In 1929 at age 13, Scott became the youngest aviator in the United States, and she was also elected to the Chickasaw legislature later in life. Another Chickasaw citizen was also recognized recently for his achievements – Vernon Straughn was inducted into the Oklahoma Amateur Softball Association's Hall Of Fame 58 years after his death. Known for his legendary pitching and hitting skills, Straughn and his team also won the American Softball Association's championship in 1947. And at the largest employee services awards ever held, more than 225 Chickasaw Nation employees were celebrated for their work, dedication and years of service. Next we travel to southern Oklahoma to the Bank of Tishomingo, which was opened more than 110 years ago. It now serves as a museum, featuring some of the bank's original furnishings, and it also houses Johnston County Historical Museum. Finally, remember to stay tuned to KCNP 89.5 FM, the Chickasaw Community Radio station, for winter storm alerts and traffic conditions.
