Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Quin Tran and special summer guest host Nicole Schultz take us first to Kullihoma, Oklahoma, for Chikasha Ittifama, the annual Chickasaw reunion. This two-day event celebrates the tribe's history, culture, music and traditions. Next, we travel to Norman for the University of Oklahoma's 2014 commencement ceremony, at which Governor Bill Anoatubby was presented with an honorary degree. Governor Anoatubby, who was recognized for initiatives in economic development and healthcare, was one of four distinguished individuals to be acknowledged at the ceremony. Neal McCaleb, another celebrated Chickasaw citizen, was honored by the Putnam City Schools Foundation and is now featured on its Wall of Fame, joining ten other PCS distinguished grads. Next, we meet Resenda Lopez, a brave Chickasaw Nation community health representative who survived the devastating May 20, 2013 tornado that ripped through Moore and surrounding areas. This CNTV News segment captures Resenda's first time back in the area since that fateful day. The Chickasaw Nation's Geospatial Information Team mapped out the tornado's path of destruction using satellite imaging and state-of-the-art technology, which helped pinpoint properties affected by the storms.
