Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin this action-packed episode of CNTV News with a special ceremony at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Notable Chickasaw citizen Te Ata Fisher's life was commemorated with a statue dedicated on the campus of the university, from which she graduated in 1919. Te Ata was a performer who traveled the world sharing native legends, songs and history of American Indian tribes. Next, we travel to the historic Chickasaw Nation capitol in Tishomingo for another statue dedication, this one of fierce Chickasaw leader Piominko. Though he was previously known as "Piomingo," historical research through the Chickasaw Language Department has shown that the name Piominko is more accurate, as "minko" is Chickasaw for "leader." Another group of notable Chickasaw citizens, the 2014 Hall Of Fame inductees, were honored with a special ceremony at Riverwind Casino in Norman. Several events also took place this month: Chikasha Poya, the annual Chickasaw cultural day at the Oklahoma State Capitol; the Chickasaw Healthy Minds 5k Run & Walk, an afternoon of family fun and fitness; Sooner N7, a sports event promoting health & wellness among Native American youth; and the 13th annual Children’s Fair in Ada, which recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month.
