In this episode of CNTV News, Brad and Quin recognize American Heart Month by connecting with Chickasaw elder Steve Paniagua. In January 2024, Steve noticed a change to his energy levels and ability to stay active. The day after receiving medical testing, he had life-saving triple bypass surgery. "Any time you feel a change in your body and you're getting tired, don't be that macho man," he says. "If there's a question mark, have it checked out by a medical professional." Just six months after his surgery, Steve completed the historic Homeland Removal Ride from Pontotoc, Mississippi to Tishomingo, Oklahoma with the Chickasaw Cycling Club. "I was so surprised how much more I could do after the surgery," says Steve. "We had a big community of people praying for me during that surgery, so I thank everyone for those prayers."
Brad and Quin also share some tips for improving and maintaining heart health. A daily dose of exercise, low-sodium and low-sugar meals, managing stress and getting enough sleep are a few steps to take this American Heart Month. Additionally, visiting your doctor for annual check-ups can help catch potential health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
