To begin this episode of CNTV News, Brad and Quin travel to Slovenia with Chickasaw archer Shiloh Butts. More than 300 archers from 32 countries competed in this year's World Archery 3D Championships. "Just to be able to be there, to make it to that high of a level was pretty awesome," says Shiloh. This is Shiloh's third time competing in an international archery competition and he won a bronze medal in the mixed event with Jamie Buchanan, another archer from Oklahoma.
Next in the episode, we catch up with Elizabeth Isaly, a Chickasaw runner who recently completed the New York Marathon. In just over 4 hours, Elizabeth ran 26.2 miles through NYC with friends and family cheering her on. She ran with the nonprofit organization RiseAbove, which encourages First American youth to embrace healthy habits through sports programming and education.
The Chickasaw Nation Department of Health receives one of the highest recognitions for an organization in the country. The Baldrige Award is given to organizations for performance excellence. The Chickasaw Nation's WIC program also receives a national honor from the USDA: the 2024 Breastfeeding Bonus Award.
To close the episode, Brad and Quin connect with one of Oklahoma State University's distinguished alumni, Annawyn Shamas. The Chickasaw elder's career in community theatre spans over 70 years, having worked throughout the country as an actor, director and educator. Annawyn now lives in Colorado, but her Chickasaw heritage and hometown of Stillwater, OK, remain important to her.
