The Alligator Clan: Lowak Shoppala' Costumes

Margaret Roach Wheeler

Margaret Wheeler shows us the Alligator Clan costume, inspired by a shell carving she found at the Smithsonian. The breech cloth is a shape she saw on these carvings. She describes the elaborate hair designs of the era, represented by a headdress and braid. She added a buckskin cape with rabbit fur collar. She notes the tattooing done for the production and the exhibit mannequins at the Cultural Center exhibit were accomplished with help from LaDonna Brown, Joanna Underwood and Trina Jones.
