The Tanumpo Hosa Apisa Camp teaches young Chickasaw citizens archery and how to shoot shotguns, .22 rifles and air pistols. The goal is to teach 12- to 18-year-olds firearm safety and proper handling. During the two-day camp, the students rotate through four stations and receive personalized tips from on-site instructors. The camp also gives students an insight into the ways their Chickasaw ancestors used bows and arrows to provide for their families and makes them feel more connected to their Chickasaw heritage.
