Stephanie Scott

Instead of watching television, the highlight of Stephanie Scott's childhood evenings was the time spent listening to stories told by her family. Later, she would realize storytelling was the art of preserving a culture. Stephanie now tries to uphold the culture of the Chickasaw Nation through her stories.

Scott is the third Chickasaw storyteller for the tribe. They have all been women, and currently she is the official tribal storyteller. The legends are passed down from mother to daughter in Chickasaw custom, and this helped mold Stephanie's technique and talent.

Stephanie is a proud Chickasaw who educates others on the history and heritage of the tribe.
