American Revolution

Chickasaws perceived the American Revolution as "brothers fighting brothers" and initially tried to stay out of the conflict. At first, remaining neutral proved to be easy; most colonial land battles took place in the East, far from the Chickasaw Homeland. However, the alliance between the American colonies and France eventually placed most of the Chickasaws on the side of the English. The 1736 Battle of Hikki'ya' (Ackia) continued to weigh heavy on the minds of the Chickasaw in terms of allegiance with the French.
